Starting a Twitter movement

in Odd, community

Today I had the urge to try a little experiment. I wanted to start adoption of certain hashtags on Twitter, much like how #followfriday started.

I picked out 7 topics for which I would like to share resources. I then assigned these to days of the week. Some of them are too long, some don’t sound quite right, but this is an experiment. Here they are:

  • #jqueryMonday
  • #rubyTuesday
  • #wordpressWednesday
  • #themeThursday
  • #vectorFriday
  • #stockSaturday
  • #pluginSunday

In the beginning, it’s just me spouting out useful resources I run across on the appropriate day, and sticking in the corresponding hashtag.

I have an interesting twitter following. Not large in number, but rich in intellect and similar interests. I’m sure there are tools to analyze how successful you are in reaching your audience based on your retweet (RT) percentage, but suffice it to say that quite a few people seem to enjoy things I share.

What I predict is that most people will ignore or omit the hashtag for about the first 3 weeks. After that, I hope that it will catch on, and we’ll end up with a body of users all sharing and contributing resources and interesting findings on a particular topic on a particular day.

So, with that, what are your #vectorFriday discoveries thus far?

Ha! Good point!

Well, I like the Ruby language, and the restaurant’s food is good as well, so there are possibilities.
